Amani Channel is a freelance journalist, and blogger/podcaster living in Atlanta GA. Channel is a graduate of the University of Florida, and has worked in broadcast news professionally for a decade. He landed his first news job in 1997 when he worked as an Assignment Editor at WJLA-TV (ABC) in Washington DC. After a year he moved to Tampa Florida to work for WTVT-TV Fox 13, as a Reporter Trainee. In 1999 he started working as a full-time General Assignment Reporter at WTVT. From 2001-04, Channel worked as an adjunct instructor at Hillsborough Community College teaching “Intro to Broadcasting.” In 2004, he left HCC to study media convergence in the University of South Florida’s graduate program. Channel relocated to Atlanta to work for Black Family Channel on a user generated content news show called U-R TV in 2006, and remained at BFC until the network went off of the air in May 2007. He also created a podcast/blog called My Urban Report in 2006. The blog features citizen journalism styled videos produced by Channel about community issues. Videos produced for My Urban Report have been featured on BET, CNN and Headline News. Channel’s been a guest lecturer at Clark Atlanta University, Kennesaw State University, and has taught various new media workshops around the Atlanta Area. Channel is currently finishing his coursework at Georgia State University, and freelance reports for HDNews, a 24-hour high definition news network seen on the Dish Network.
