Bill published the company newsletter at Weyerhaeuser for 70,000 employees and retirees. At AT&T Wireless, he created an entire communications system for employees in 10 western states. At outdoor retailer REI, he kept information flowing to employees in 60+ REI stores across the U.S. and Japan, and managed the “What’s New” section of REI.com. He also was senior manager of communications at Terabeam, a high-tech startup, where he was responsible for internal and marketing communications. In 2002, Bill formed his own communications company, FutureState Communications, to help organizations improve sales, productivity and profits by changing the thinking, feeling and behavior of employees. In January 2004, FutureState merged with Outsource Marketing. Bill began his career as an all-news radio reporter and anchor in Washington, D.C. He spent seven years as a street reporter and assignment editor for Seattle’s KSTW-TV. Bill has a degree in communications from Ohio University. He is accredited by the International Association of Business Communicators and recently served as president of IABC’s Seattle chapter (IABC named him “2005 Chapter Leader of the Year”). Bill is a member of the Council of Communication Management, founder and chair of IABC/Seattle’s “Morning Manager” series, and a contributor to the Journal of Employee Communication Management and Communitelligence.com. He’s also won eight IABC Gold Quill awards, a Bronze Anvil from PRSA, and numerous local and regional awards.
